Following several years of working with a number of shipyards in the Tuzla area of Turkey and building relationships with these yards and other suppliers, Macduff Ship Design was asked by RMK marine to work with them on the development of a series of vessels for local owners. As the vessels were to be smaller in size than the shipyard’s normal builds, the proven track record of Macduff for designing compact but versatile vessels made for an ideal partnership between the two companies. After several meetings to confirm exact details of the vessels, we were contracted to supply the design and construction plans for 9 vessels in 3 different designs. Each vessel had its own set of challenges: a small line handling vessel with a low air draft, a compact ASD tug with shallow draft and a harbour workboat for passenger and cargo supply with semi-planing characteristics. The 3 designs proved the flexibility to work on a variety of vessels for a single contract with all designs being completed on schedule and meeting all required performance targets.
